Praha - Policejní prezident Oldřich Martinů musí do konce roku propustit 30 procent zaměstnanců policejního prezidia, to je asi 600 lidí. V úterý mu to nařídil ministr vnitra Radek John (VV). Dnes o tom informoval deník Právo, který má k dispozici kopii Johnova dopisu. O tom, koho propustí, Martinů musí rozhodnout do deseti dnů. Podle listu se dosud plánovalo, že by z prezidia mohlo příští rok odejít 20 procent lidí.
Ministr vnitra Radek John (VV) přitvrzuje v hledání úspor a krátce po ohlášení drastických škrtů ve svém resortu má další nařízení pro šéfa policie Oldřicha Martinů. Ten tak musí do konce roku zeštíhlit policejní prezidium nejméně o 30 procent, tedy o více než 600 lidí.

All thirteen men who fell into the water have been accounted for, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. No injuries were reported. Smoke was billowing from the oil rig named Vermilion 380, which is reported to still be on fire. The blast occurred at around 9:19 a.m., approximately 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay off the coast of Louisiana. The Coast Guard confirms the platform was producing oil and gas at the time it exploded. They earlier reported a one mile long and 100 foot wide oil sheen which was spotted at the site of the explosion shortly after authorities responded to the scene, but later backtracked saying they could not confirm the presence of a sheen. Coast Guard chief petty officer John Edwards of the US Coast Guard earlier said that the platform, "was not actively producing any product." Smoke was billowing from the rig, which is reported to still be on fire. The BBC reports that helicopters and boats are on their way to the location. The blast occurred approximately 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay off the coast of Louisiana. According to Coast Guard chief petty officer John Edwards of the US Coast Guard, the platform named Vermillion 380, "was not actively producing any product." Edwards does not believe there to be any oil leaking from below the platform and so far Coast Guard helicopters have not been able to spot an oil sheen or other leakage. According to Bureau of Energy Management Regulation and Enforcement spokesperson Melissa Schwartz, the platform was authorized to produce natural gas and oil, but "there were ongoing maintenance activities underway." Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff has expressed surprise that Google didn't tell the public more clearly that the information would be collected and has asked for further details about. Police has referred the matter of data collection from Wi-Fi networks by Google Street View back to the office of the Privacy Commissioner. The Privacy Commissioner formally referred the matter to Police in June following concerns over Google obtaining unencrypted Wi-Fi data while collecting panoramic digital images for its Street View service. An investigation by Police has determined that there is no evidence to suggest a criminal offence has been committed. Police has now handed the matter back to the Privacy Commissioner for further consideration. Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel of the Police National Cyber Crime Centre says the matter is a timely reminder about Wi-Fi security: "Anyone using Wi-Fi needs to ensure they have appropriate security measures in place. People should not underestimate the risk that information they broadcast might be accessed by others, either inadvertently or for more sinister purposes."

A new Nielson poll has suggested that Australian support for a republic has dropped, with one third of people surveyed claiming that they never want the country to cut its ties to the Monarchy of Australia, headed by the Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of Australia. Out of 1,400 people polled prior to the 2010 federal election, those who oppose Australia becoming a republic grew by 8 per cent since 2008. Caretaker Prime Minister, Julia Gillard claimed during the campaign of the 2010 federal election, that she believed Australia should become a republic at the end of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. 34 per cent of those in the poll share this view, wanting Queen Elizabeth II to be Australia's last monarch. At the extremes of the poll, 29 per cent of those surveyed believe Australia should become a republic as soon as possible, while 31 per cent believe Australia should never become a republic.
