The Dev-Team has announced that there will be no jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 or 3.2.2. It stands to reason, as the release did absolutely nothing other than patch the security hole that was using as an exploit. It's also not a big surprise, minor updates are regularly skipped over. So, if you're a "jailbreaker" and would like to keep it that way, just don't update to 4.0.2. You won't be missing out on anything. The Dev-Team explains that escalating the "cat and mouse game" doesn't benefit the users, so they're letting this one ride. That's reasonable, too, as I reminisce about radar detectors, laser detectors and the cat and mouse game that happened between lead-foot citizens and law enforcement. No one really benefited, other than the electronics manufacturers who fuel that battle. It's noted that any future jailbreak for the upcoming 4.1 firmware update might be backwards-compatible with 4.0.2, but don't pin any hopes on it. If you're interested in keeping your firmware up-to-date with the latest goodness, you probably wouldn't be considering that, anyway. He said no. Anyway, I just wanted to put this out there. If you're a podcaster and you get an email from this outfit, they should be disclaiming upfront that they have nothing to do with the Voice of America. Pretty sure they got my email address by scraping BlogTalkRadio, which has a much more legitimate claim, imho, at being "The World Leader in Live Internet Talk Radio." And these guys would look a lot less sleazy if they changed their name to something that wasn't so readily misunderstood.

Jako už hotovou věc nám dnes česká média předložila rozhodnutí Baracka Obamy zřídit v České republice jakési středisko včasného varování před raketami. Zpráva podle mého názoru mimořádného významu probleskla na hlavní stránce dnes dopoledne, aby byla vzápětí překrytá jinými „veledůležitými“ zprávami. Středisko snad bude dokonce přímo v Praze.

Podle ČSSD spolu radar v Brdech a nové centrum nesouvisejí. Pokud bude součástí NATO jsou ochotni ho podpořit.

Policisté několik měsíců testovali software, který by naučil jejich radary například vyhodnotit údaje z espézetky nebo natočit jízdu auta na červenou. Filed under: iPhoneI've spoken of my Trailguru love in the past. It's a simple GPS application that has, unfortunately, seemed to drop off the radar at least as far as software updates are concerned. I know its creator is still on the scene -- because I can track his bike runs on the trailguru.com website -- but the iPhone application languishes. That's a big shame, because I have friends on trailguru.com and I have localized months and months of progress there. The site isn't polished or perfect, but I really do like using it. Today, however, I discovered something fabulous. I learned that Runmeter -- an otherwise excellent application without a cobranded website -- can export its trails to gpx files and e-mail them off. Why is that so exciting? Well, it means that I can use the Runmeter app on my iPhone 4 -- running in the background using iOS "multitasking" -- and then later send my results up to the Trailguru site via my desktop system. Now the NY Times goes farther, quoting Tim O'Reilly: 'Microsoft is totally off the radar of the cool, hip, cutting-edge software developers.' Microsoft has acknowledged that they have lost young developers to the lures of free software. 'We did not get access to kids as they were going through college,' acknowledged Bob Muglia, the president of Microsoft's business software group, in an interview last year. 'And then, when people, particularly younger people, wanted to build a start-up, and they were generally under-capitalized, the idea of buying Microsoft software was a really problematic idea for them.' Microsoft's program to seed start-ups with its software for free requires the fledgling companies to meet certain guidelines and jump through hoops to receive software — while its free competitors simply allow anyone to download products off a website with the click of a button." Mashable has a list of "fathers" of the web. Okay -- I would agree with some of the people on the list, and disagree with others. Of course TBL is at the root of the tree. He's so central to the development of the web that you don't even have to say his name. But everyone has their inspiration, and before Tim Berners-Lee came Doug Engelbart and Ted Nelson. The ideas embodied in TBL's hypertext are brilliant, but they did come from somewhere. So let's say that behind every founder are honorable people who deserve a mention. The person who authored the Mashable list obviously felt that the technical side of the web was what mattered. The deeper and more esoteric stuff that formed foundations. I thought of people I would put on a list of founders of the web (I wouldn't say fathers, that's sexist). And they had less to do with the technology and more to do with the practice.
